Bequests:
Gifts by will or revocable living trust may be for a specific dollar amount, a percentage of the total estate or the residual amount remaining after all debts, taxes, expenses and other bequests have been paid.
FAQ's regarding bequests:
How do I leave a bequest to the POWH Foundation?
A. Easy. The most common way to leave a gift is specified in your will. Many
people set aside a certain dollar amount, whilst others leave a percentage of
their estate or, any assets left over after their family has been provided for.
Some people choose to donate cash, securities, or personal property. Others
leave life insurance policies, funds from a retirement account or other
financial assets.
Must I have a sizeable Estate in order to leave a bequest?
A. Anyone can leave a bequest. Estate is simply a word used to describe any
money, property or personal belongings that you own at the time of your death.
Most people leave an estate when they die, even though they may not have had a
great deal of wealth. All bequests, large and small are put to good use.
Do I have to state my wish to leave a gift to the POWH Foundation?
Yes. A bequest will not take effect unless you state your intention in your will.
Can I leave a bequest in memory of a loved one?
A. Yes. A gift in memory of somebody is a wonderful way to recognise someone who
has made a difference in your life. The POWH Foundation encourages memorial
gifts. This kind of gift can also be specified in your Will.
How can I leave a bequest for a specific purpose or area in the Hospital?
If you contact the Foundation Office we can discuss with you where you would like your bequest to go.
Who can help me to specify a bequest?
If you have a professional advisor like a financial planner, a lawyer or accountant. Alternatively a public trustee can be of assistance.
For purposes of a Will, our official name and address is:
Prince of Wales Hospital Foundation
Locked Bag 3
Maroubra 2035
Is the POWH Foundation a tax-exempt organisation?
Yes. We are exempt from Federal income tax and state taxes.
If I leave products in my Will, will someone have to pay tax on any appreciation value?
No. There is no tax payable on the appreciation of your Estate.
Can the POWH Foundation act as my executor?
No. But we can assist you in finding a suitable executor.
Who should I contact if there are other questions concerning a bequest to the POWH Foundation?
Please contact your solicitor or the Foundation office on 9382 4263 for further information.

Gifts of Real Estate:
A gift of residence, vacation home farm or investment property can provide
significant resources to the Prince of Wales Hospital Foundation while
maximizing tax benefits for you.
Life Insurance:
Policies that are no longer needed for family protection or business purposes
make excellent charitable gifts, regardless of whether or not all the premiums
have been paid. When you transfer ownership of the policy to the POWH
Foundation, the cash value of the policy is a tax-deductible gift, as are all
future premium payments. By establishing new life insurance policies
specifically for the POWH Foundation to benefit the POWH, you can make a
substantial gift for a relatively modest annual outlay.
Life Estate Gifts:
A life estate agreement allows you to transfer ownership, but retain the right
to live in and use your residence or farm for the remainder of your life.
Because the ownership transfer is considered a gift to the POWH Foundation for
the POWH, an income tax deduction is available for a portion of the value of the
home or farm.
Gifts of Property and Goods (Gifts in Kind):
Antiques, art, boats and other items may be excellent gifts. If the item can be
used by POWH foundation (for example, office equipment), then its full fair
market value may be deducted. If the POWH Foundation will most likely sell the
item, the deduction is limited to the cost basis of the item.
Pledges:
Making a pledge to POWH foundation allows you to make instalment payments on
your gift. Monthly or annual pledges are available through any department. For
more information on this type of gift, contact Leanne M Zalapa at 0293823671, or
e-mail leanne.zalapa@sesiahs.health.nsw.gov.au
Corporate Sponsorship
William Inglis and Son have made a $100,000 corporate donation to the POWH
Foundation for 2006.
Corporate Partner Program
Businesses can provide support by becoming a Corporate Partner and donating
$5,000 a year for five years. Your company may wish to direct your donation to a
particular project or area of interest. Corporate Partners of the POWH
Foundation receive recognition through naming rights, strategic partnerships and
sponsorship opportunities. For further information please contact the Foundation
office on 03 9288 3365.
Memorial Gifts
Family and friends often make donations rather than flowers, in memory of their
loved ones who have died. These gifts not only honour the life of the person who
has died, but offer practical support to The Prince of Wales Hospital. Memorial
gifts can be allocated to specific departments at the request of family and
friends (for example cancer or cardiac patient care or research). The Foundation
can provide personalised donation forms and can attend the funeral if the family
would like. If you would like to find out more please contact the Foundation or
ask your funeral director to contact us on 02 9382 4263.
